Paronychia is a fungal infection which develops under the fingernails or toenails and has been shown to respond very well to tea tree oil. It is notoriously difficult to cure. However, Tea Tree Oil is a powerful organic solvent which will penetrate deep into skin layers and even beneath a fingernail.

Symptoms of paronychia are a red and painful cuticle with a slight discharge. More chronic conditions will show a nail becoming ridged and furrowed and there is discolouration below the nail. The nail becomes quite distorted and eventually may have to be removed.
