Vaginal Infections (Vaginitis)/ Candida Vaginal Thrush Ailment Common causes of vaginitis are either pathogenic bacteria like Garnerella vaginalis (vaginosis), parasitic protozoan like Trichomonas vaginalis (trichomoniasis) and (most commonly) Candida albicans, a yeast-like fungus (candidiasis or moniliasis). Typical symptoms of vaginitis are severe vulvar itching, increased vaginal discharge, and pain on passing urine. Additional Information Inflammation of the vagina and vulva involving discharge, itching and soreness may arise from many different causes. One of these, thrush or candidiasis, appears to be increasing because of the use of antibiotics and corticosteroid drugs to treat other conditions. These drugs can cause chemical changes in the body that destroy the body's immunity to candidiasis and encourage the fungus to grow. The most common site of the infection is in the vagina, where symptoms including itching, inflammation and a thick, milky white discharge. Very itchy and discomforting infection of the vagina
by the yeast Candida albicans. Other microorganisms can produce similar
symptoms.
