Stop coughs and colds from spreading with tea tree oil
6th Jun 2012
Most families like to do what they can to prevent coughs, colds and other nasty infections from entering their homes.
After all, looking after a sick child is not much fun - especially if you come down with their bug yourself! Not to mention it usually forces at least one parent to take time off work.
As the old saying goes, prevention is better than a cure. While it's important to treat infections when they arise, you could avoid them altogether by putting a few simple methods in place.
Firstly, it's important to up the ante on basic household hygiene. Remembering to regularly clean surfaces with a good antiseptic spray can really help to banish nasty germs and bacteria.
Tea tree oil is particularly effective because it is a natural antiseptic.
It is also worth reminding your kids about personal hygiene. NPS clinical advisor Dr Philippa Binns says that basic cleanliness can really help to stop the spreading of infections.
"Simple steps like covering your mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, throwing the tissue away in a rubbish bin, then washing your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water can help stop infections from spreading and help prevent you from catching the flu," she explained (June 5).
